Khởi động từ là thiết bị đóng cắt nguồn điện công suất được điều khiển đóng mở thông qua on/off nguồn điện cho cuộn dây.
Các kí hiệu AC1, AC2,AC3,AC4 theo tiêu chuẩn IEC 60947-5-1 của contactor có những ý nghĩa sau :
-AC: dùng cho tải AC
-DC: Dùng cho tải DC
-AC1 :Dùng cho tải trở thuần, tải dung thuần. Được lựa chọn giá trị dòng định mức qua các tiếp điểm chính của contactor khi lựa chọn đóng cắt những tải có cos phi lớn hơn 0.95(thường là tải trở). Loại này áp dụng cho tất cả các tải AC có hệ số cos phi trên 95%.
-AC2:Dùng để khởi động phanh nhấp nhả,phanh ngược cho Đcơ KĐB rotor dây quấn.khi các tiếp điểm chính contactor đóng kín mạch thì hình thành dòng khởi động ,giá trị dòng này bằng khoảng 2,5 lần dòng In của động cơ.
-AC3: Dùng để đóng cắt ĐCKĐB rotor lồng sóc trong suốt quá trình vận hành thông thường.Khi tiếp điểm chính đóng lại thì hình thành dòng khởi động bằng 5 đến 7 lần dòng In của động cơ.
-AC4:Dùng để phanh ngược ,phanh nhấp nhả ,khởi động ĐCKĐB rotor lồng sóc
-DC2:Dùng cho động cơ DC kích từ song song khi đang vận hành, hằng số thời gian của tải khoảng 7.5 ms.Khi các tiếp điểm chính đóng lại thì hình thành dòng khởi động,dòng này có giá trị khoảng 2.5 lần dòng In của động cơ.
-DC3:Khởi động phanh nhấp nhả ,phanh ngược các ĐC một chiều kích từ song song ,hằng số thời gian của mạch tải nhỏ hơn 2 ms. Khi các tiếp điểm chính đóng lại thì hình thành dòng khởi động,dòng này có giá trị khoảng 2.5 lần dòng In của động cơ.
-DC 4 Dùng để ngắt mạch phụ tải là động cơ một chiều kích từ nối tiếp khi động cơ đang vận hành bình thường, hằng số thời gian phụ tải khoảng 10 ms. Khi các tiếp điểm chính đóng lại thì hình thành dòng khởi động,dòng này có giá trị khoảng 2.5 lần dòng In của động cơ.
Về ký hiệu tên model sản phẩm, mỗi nhà chế tạo contactor đều có một kí hiệu,kí số riêng để ghi cho biết thông số dòng, áp…của hãng mình.
Các thông số như hãng Ls như MC-9a, MC-50a; Scheider thì có để là LC1 D09,LC1 D25…Rồi LS GMC (D) 75.Rồi Mitshubishi lại để S-N 12,S-N 95… có nghĩa là nếu contactor này được sử dụng cho những tải có hệ số cos phi nhỏ như những tài cảm như động cơ thì những con số 09,50,75,12,95 ở trên chính là dòng định mức (In )thông số của AC3 .
_ Ith: dòng maximum của contactor khi sử dụng với tải có hệ số công suất 0.85 đến 0.95 trở lên và nó chính là loại mang ý nghĩa của AC1 đó.
_ Ui :chính là điện áp cách điện định của contactor .
_ Uimp: điện áp xung cách điện.
